A visionary life is a life fueled by a passionate sense of mission and purpose, a life lived from the inside out rather than from the outside in. Visionary living fills you by turns with excitement, joy, and laughter, or with a deep, abiding sense of wonder, awe and peace. You carry with you the calm assurance that as you stay aligned with your vision, everything in your life will unfold exactly as it should. Trials, frustrations and setbacks, even if they temporarily disturb your peace, will be seen as the opportunities for growth that they are and welcomed as you see how synchronistically they fit into your vision and mission.
If this resonates with you, you may be wondering, "how do I create this kind of visionary life for myself?" Creating a visionary life begins with the practice of taking time out of each day to sit in stillness, to quiet our minds and attune ourselves to the whisperings of soul and spirit within. Without developing the ability to listen to quiet promptings, you cannot connect with the mission that is yours alone to fulfill.
Your journey to attunement with soul and spirit and the guidance awaiting you there will be uniquely and individually your own. One method for learning to live your life from within is to practice the art of meditation. Examples of other methods could include practices such as prayer, music or sound therapy.
We will explore several of these methods in the weeks to come, but for now, let's focus on learning to be still for just five minutes a day. Utterly and completely still... physically, mentally and emotionally. You might also want to journal in just a sentence or two each day, any impressions, insights or guidance you receive during the day as a result of these five minutes of stillness. As your mind starts to wander, just gently bring it back to stillness using peaceful music or visualization. Meditation is a skill anyone can learn and there are as many paths to perfecting this art as there are individuals. More on that later, for now, just experiment with five minutes of stillness.
And if you feel so inclined, please share your thoughts and experiences with us on the "Loved It" page.
Meditation PLUS ~ Visualization
Once you feel that you are mastering the "five minutes of silence" experiment, lets take it one step further. Visualization is a powerful tool to set you on the path toward your Visionary Life. For our next step, choose one thing, just a simple thing to begin with that you want to manifest in your day. It's very important to start simple. After sitting in stillness for 2-3 minutes, begin to visualize in your mind this simple desire for your day. Picture it as having already happened and include as much detail as you can, make it feel real. Include the setting, your emotions and thoughts and anything else that makes it real for you. Then go about your day. It's very important to remember that you cannot control other people's actions, only your own, so keep this in mind as you choose what to visualize. As an example, I might visualize myself bringing peace and pain relief to 2 clients. I am not choosing who those clients are, I'm not even expecting the massage to happen that day, just the appointment, so I'm simply visualizing myself providing that loving service. In our next step, we will talk about a powerful companion practice to accompany visualization that will infuse it with even greater power.
As always, I'd love to hear about your experiences with visualization in the coming weeks!
